Albany State Sweeps Wesleyan College in Dominant Fashion

Albany, GA - The Albany State Lady Golden Rams showcased their dominance on the diamond with a commanding sweep over Wesleyan College, winning both games of the doubleheader in shutout fashion. With the victories, Albany State improved to 14-9 overall, while Wesleyan dropped to 1-17 on the season.

Game 1: Wesleyan 0 – Albany State 13
The Lady Golden Rams exploded offensively and secured a 13-0 victory in five innings. Albany State wasted no time getting on the board, plating eight runs in the first inning to set the tone early. The offensive charge was led by Madison Hurt, Katy Ayers, and Erielle Reid, who each contributed multiple hits and RBIs. The Lady Golden Rams compiled 18 hits in the contest, with Romona McLeod, Ty Brown, and Kaliyah Smith-Barnes each adding extra-base hits. On the mound, Barnes dominated, allowing just three hits over three innings while striking out three. Mary Scott Hulsey and Kamari Morrow came in for relief and combined for two scoreless innings to complete the shutout.

Game 2: Wesleyan 0 – Albany State 8
Albany State continued their dominance, securing an 8-0 win in another five-inning contest. The Lady Golden Rams took an early lead in the first inning and methodically built upon it, scoring in four of the five frames. Trista Murphy and Hulsey combined for the one-hit shutout, with Murphy striking out five batters over three innings of work. At the plate, Albany State tallied 10 hits, with Reid, Amari Mapps, and Avery Fisher delivering key RBIs. The team executed on both sides of the ball, playing error-free defense while applying pressure on the base paths with stolen bases from Reid, Hurt, and Brielle Thompson.

With this doubleheader sweep, the Lady Golden Rams gained momentum heading into their next matchup. Up next, Albany State remains home for a non-conference showdown against Paine College on Friday, March 28. Game one is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m., with game two to follow immediately after.

Albany State University is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II-level intercollegiate athletic program. The university currently field teams in 11 sports: women's volleyball, women's tennis, women's cross country, men's and women's basketball, softball, men's and women's track and field, women's soccer, baseball, and football. All teams compete in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC), except women's soccer, which participates in the Peach Belt Conference.
