Albany, GA – The Albany State Lady Golden Rams closed out their opening SIAC series in dominant fashion, defeating Benedict College 9-0 in Game 3 to secure a 2-1 series victory. With the win, the Lady Golden Rams improve to 5-5 overall and 2-1 in SIAC play, while the Lady Tigers fall to 6-6 overall and 3-3 in conference play.
The Golden Rams overpowered Benedict from start to finish, delivering a complete performance that included explosive offense, solid defense, and a shutout pitching display by
Trista Murphy (1-0).
The Lady Golden Rams set the tone early, with
Avery Fisher and
Morgan Brown launching back-to-back solo home runs in the second inning to give Albany State a 2-0 lead.
In the third, Kady Ayers capitalized on a sacrifice fly by
Romona McLeod, extending the lead to 3-0.
The offensive surge continued in the fifth inning, as Fisher ripped an RBI triple to bring home Ayers, pushing the advantage to 4-0.
The final knockout punch came in the sixth, where Albany State erupted for five runs.
Keyatta Ayers and
Romona McLeod drew bases-loaded walks, while Fisher and Brown delivered clutch RBI hits to seal the 9-0 victory in six innings.
On the mound, Murphy was unstoppable, tossing a six-inning complete-game shutout, allowing just six hits while striking out seven.
