Albany, GA –
Albany State University Football is excited to announce Damon B. Frenchers as the new Defensive Line Coach for the Golden Rams. Frenchers, a seasoned coach with over 30 years of experience, brings a wealth of knowledge and championship pedigree to ASU's defense.
Frenchers joins the Golden Rams with an impressive track record of developing elite defensive talent, coaching 15 All-Conference players and three All-Americans throughout his career. He was instrumental in leading the 2024 SIAC's No. 1 defense and coaching the No. 1 run defense in NCAA Division II nationally. His resume also includes multiple conference championships, including titles in the MEAC (2015) and SWAC (2018, 2019), along with a Black College National Championship in 2015.
"We're excited about the addition of coach Frenchers to the staff and the program. He brings a plethora of knowledge that will ultimately help our student athletes be successful both on and off the field," said Head Coach Quinn Gray. "His experience on the defensive side of the ball will help us play at a level that has always been the expectation of the Dirty Blue Defense. Our past relationship allows this transition to happen seamlessly and without any effort because we have a history."
Frenchers, a 1991 graduate of Regents College—now known as Excelsior University, part of the University System of New York in Albany—expressed his enthusiasm, saying, "I'm having a great time because I'm with some dear friends of mine. We were together before at Alcorn. I'm excited to work with these young men to build a defense that is physical, disciplined, and relentless. I'm grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the Golden Rams family again."
With Frenchers now leading the defensive line, Albany State aims to build on its strong defensive foundation as the team prepares for the upcoming season. Fans can anticipate a tough and dominant front line under his guidance as the Golden Rams focus on a championship run in 2025.
