Albany, Ga. – The Albany State University men's basketball team opened SIAC play on Thursday night inside the HPER Complex, falling 77–54 to the visiting Morehouse College Maroon Tigers. The loss drops the Golden Rams to 0–3, marking the program's first 0–3 season start since 2022.
Albany State was led by standout performances from
Cameron Evans and
Shakur Poteat, who accounted for more than half of the Rams' scoring output.
Cameron Evans delivered a dominant effort with 19 points, shooting 9-of-15 from the field while adding 9 rebounds, 2 assists, and a steal in 35 minutes.
Shakur Poteat followed with 13 points, going 6-of-13 and adding 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 turnovers while serving as the primary ball-handler throughout the game. Junior guard
Jeremiah Edwards provided a spark off the bench, knocking down four three-pointers and finishing with 12 points in 20 minutes of action.
After a slow first half in which the Golden Rams shot just 38.1% from the field, Albany State regrouped at halftime and delivered a significantly sharper offensive performance. The team shot 51.9% from the floor and an impressive 58.3% from three-point range in the second half.
The Golden Rams fought hard on the boards, ending with 25 rebounds, including nine defensive boards from Evans and six from
Christian Gary. ASU also totaled seven steals, highlighting active hands and strong defensive effort throughout the night.
Up Next, Albany State returns to action on Saturday, November 29 at 7:00 PM, hosting Florida Tech inside the HPER Complex. The Rams aim to secure their first win of the year and generate momentum as they continue through the season and SIAC play.
