Albany State Secures Conference Opener Win Over Central State

Rochester, NY-  In a dominant performance, Albany State secured a 28-7 victory over Central State, showcasing their formidable defense and balanced offensive attack Saturday (Sept. 21) evening at the Rochester Community Sports Complex. Albany State improved to 1-2 while Central State dropped to 1-3.

The Golden Rams struck first and owned the first quarter taking an early lead. Isaiah Knowles connected with Javion Jackson for a 34-yard pass that resulted in the first and only touchdown of the quarter.

The Marauders struggled to break through Albany State's tough "Dirty Blue Defense" and remained scoreless throughout the first quarter. Finally, at the 12:54 mark of the second quarter, Central State found a breakthrough and managed to get on the board, bringing the score to 7-7 and shifting momentum their way.

Albany State quickly responded when Knowles threw a 14-yard laser pass down the middle, connecting with wide receiver Devin Dorsey for a touchdown, reclaiming the lead at 14-7. Despite the Marauders' efforts to counter, they struggled to find their rhythm. The Golden Rams' defense was relentless, limiting Central State to just one score for the entire game.

In the third quarter, Albany State continued to dominate. A precise 18-yard pass to Xavier Herndon extended the Golden Rams' lead to 21-7, putting pressure on Central State to find answers. The Marauders, desperate to convert on crucial plays, failed on a critical fourth-down attempt, squandering their chance to keep the drive alive.

With time ticking away, Albany State's offense sealed the deal. Running back Tiant Wyche powered through Central State's defense with a rush for another touchdown, widening the gap to 28-7. Central State had no response, as the Golden Rams cruised to a commanding victory.
