Albany State to Face Central State in Inaugural Frederick Douglass Classic

Rochester, NY – The Albany State University Golden Rams are set to kick off conference play in a historic match-up against Central State University in the inaugural Frederick Douglass Classic. The game will be held at the Rochester Community Sports Complex in Rochester, NY, marking a momentous occasion in HBCU football history.

The Golden Rams enter the game with confidence, following a dominant 48-0 victory over the Marauders in their last meeting. Albany State's "Dirty Blue Defense" was unbreakable in that match-up, and the offense showcased explosive plays throughout. As the Golden Rams open their conference schedule, they aim to carry that momentum into the Frederick Douglass Classic and start their season with a strong statement.

This classic, named in honor of the iconic abolitionist Frederick Douglass, celebrates the legacy of social justice and unity, making the event a significant cultural and athletic milestone. Both teams will be looking to bring their best on this special occasion, with Albany State seeking to repeat last year's success and Central State aiming for redemption.

"We're honored to be a part of this historic event," said ASU head  Quinn Gray "Frederick Douglass represents the values of strength and resilience, and we're excited to showcase that on the field in front of a new audience."

The Golden Rams will rely on their balanced attack, with veteran leadership on both sides of the ball. Albany State's defense will look to maintain its stellar reputation, while the offense, led by a dynamic group of playmakers, will aim to set the tone early.

Kickoff for the Frederick Douglass Classic is scheduled for September 21 at 1 PM and fans are encouraged to support both programs in what promises to be a thrilling start to conference play.
