ALBANY, Ga. – The Lady Rams had one final tuneup before the post season on Friday. Kaliyah Smith and Romona McLeod fired a combined no-hitter opening the day for Albany State, 8-0, before Trinity Baptist rallied for a late victory, 6-2, for the softball split.
Smith covered the opening four ASU frames where she did not allow a base runner until walking two in the third. McLeod relieved Smith for the final inning of work in the fifth where a two-out Lady Ram error was the lone runner before she retired the final out. At the plate, Keyatta Ayers and McLeod drove in a single run on hits before Morgan Brown drove in a pair for a 4-run second.
The Eagles lined a pair of run-scoring doubles in the second inning of Game 2 for a 3-0 lead and never trailed. Trailing 6-1, Emaria Banks drove a ball through for an RBI single in the sixth, but the Lady Rams could not cut into the deficit any further in the seventh.
Jasmine Russell accounted for two singles and a double to pace the home attack. Morgan Brown belted a home run and a single in the opener, while Raven Dunham doubled and singled with a stolen base in the late game. Emaria Banks added a double and a single. Ayers and McLeod each singled in each contest. De'Laynie Hollis and Ty'Janae Brown laced a double each and Brielle Thompson rounded out the total with one single.
