ALBANY, Ga. – It was a dominant Lady Ram pitching three-game series. Albany State's Kaliyah Smith fired a one-hitter and her hitters scored eight runs and completed the sweep with an 8-0 victory over Allen University in five innings on Saturday afternoon.
After she retired the first five Yellow Jacket hitters, Smith gave up her only hit, a single with two outs in the second before she sent down the final 10 visitors for the one-hitter. The Lady Ram hitters plated three runs in both the second and fifth innings until five-straight singles capped by RBI hits from each of Olivia Mason, Aniyah Dixon and Smith, herself, to end the game.
In her circle performance, Smith gave up only the second-inning single and struck out six in five innings. Her effort completed 15 innings of ASU pitching without an earned run in the three victories over Allen. Smith finished 1 for 2 with a run, two RBI and a walk hitting in the lineup.
Keyatta Ayers, Jasmine Russell, Mason and Ty'Janae Brown each lined two singles each as all 12 ASU hits were singles. Raven Dunham, Romona McLeod, and Dixon accounted for the other hits.
In the home first, Trista Murphy drove in the first Lady Ram run on a fly out to center. Leading 1-0 in the second, Smith drew a bases-loaded free pass for the the first of three scores followed by run-scoring singles from Dunham and Ayers to make it 4-0.
Dunham added a RBI ground out to short stop in the fourth until the three-run fifth finished the job.
ASU returns right back to the field on Sunday afternoon (April 14) in a home doubleheader against Wesleyan College starting at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
