Albany, GA – Albany State University Athletics has announced a date change for the opening home football game against Shaw University. Originally scheduled for September 5th, the game will now take place on September 7th, 2024. The game time remains at 6pm.

The decision to change the date comes after Saint Augustine's University recently announced that they will not be sponsoring football for the 2024 season, causing scheduling adjustments across several institutions. In response to a request from Shaw University, ASU has agreed and made the necessary changes to accommodate the scheduling adjustment.

"As members of the HBCU community, it is important for us to support each other during times of need," said Director of Athletics Dr. Kristene Kelly. "We are pleased to accommodate Shaw University's request and look forward to hosting the Bears on September 7th."

Quinn Gray, Sr., in his second year as head coach of the Golden Rams football team, expressed his support of the game date change. "We're ready to hit the field on September 7th and show what Albany State football is all about. #MoveTheNeedle," said Coach Gray.
