ALBANY, Ga. – The Lady Ram pitcher started off missing the zone, but she quickly found it the rest of the night. Trista Murphy fired her first collegiate no-hitter as Albany State shut out Savannah State, 5-0, in a Sunday night softball series opener.
After she walked the game's opening batter, Murphy was in the zone the rest of the night where she fanned 10 Lady Tiger batters in her best collegiate pitching night. The junior walked the second hitter of the top of the third and the second hitter of the fourth reached on a home error as the only other two Savannah State base runners. Murphy struck out two in each of the final three innings to complete the feat.
In a scoreless game in the home fourth with one out, Keyatta Ayers tripled and quickly came home on when Romona McLeod followed with a single through short stop. Murphy singled as the next ASU hitter for two runners on base. Morgan Brown cleared them off with a 3-run homer to left field for a 4-0 lead.
Ty'Janae Brown led off the bottom of the fifth with a walk and proceeded to steal both second and third base. Madison Hurt laid down a bunt single towards first to plate Ty'Janae Brown for what would be the final of 5-0.
ASU will complete the 3-game modified schedule series against Savannah State on Monday morning (March 4) in an 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. doubleheader.
