Albany State Falls to Kentucky State 54-65 in SIAC Action

Frankfort, KY – The Albany State University Lady Golden Rams came up short against Kentucky State, falling 54-65 in a competitive conference matchup on Saturday afternoon at the William Exum HPER Center. With the loss, the Lady Golden Rams drop to 2-5 overall and 0-3 in SIAC play, while the Lady Thorobreds improve to 4-5 overall and 3-1 in conference action.

Albany State started strong, leading 14-10 after the first quarter, but a dominant second-quarter performance by Kentucky State turned the tide. The Lady Thorobreds outscored Albany State 21-8 in the second period, taking a 31-22 lead into halftime.

The Lady Golden Rams fought back in the second half, narrowing the gap to five points on multiple occasions. However, Kentucky State's efficient offense in the fourth quarter sealed the game.

Breana Griffin led the way for Albany State, scoring a game-high 18 points on 6-of-16 shooting while adding seven rebounds and six steals. Yasmine Fairchild added 10 points and five rebounds, going a perfect 5-of-5 from the field. Keyra Peterson made her presence felt on the boards with nine rebounds and chipped in four points.

The Lady Golden Rams will look to regroup as they head to Wilberforce, OH, to take on Central State University on Monday, December 9. Tip-off is set for 5:30 PM CT.

Albany State University is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II-level intercollegiate athletic program. The university currently field teams in 11 sports: women's volleyball, women's tennis, women's cross country, men's and women's basketball, softball, men's and women's track and field, women's soccer, baseball, and football. All teams compete in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC), except women's soccer, which participates in the Peach Belt Conference.
