Albany, GA – The Albany State University Lady Golden Rams secured a thrilling 3-1 victory over the Lady Thorobreds of Kentucky State in the quarterfinals of the 2024 SIAC Championship Tournament on Thursday night at the HPER Complex. With the win, Albany State improves to 18-9 overall and 16-4 in conference play, while Kentucky State falls to 9-14 overall and 9-10 in SIAC action.
The Lady Golden Rams showcased their dominance early, winning the first two sets 25-17 and 25-19. Kentucky State fought back with a strong performance in the third set, taking it 25-21. However, Albany State rebounded in the fourth set, delivering a commanding 25-16 finish to seal the match and punch their ticket to the semifinals.
All-Conference First Team standout
Jarianis Perez led the way for Albany State, recording a match-high 22 kills with an impressive .405 hitting percentage, alongside two service aces and 13 digs.
Kaylin Teasley contributed seven kills with a .385 hitting percentage and two service aces, while
Sydney Melton added six points with three kills, two aces, and 18 digs.
Defensively, the Lady Golden Rams were rock solid, led by libero
Talia Smith, who registered nine digs, and
Liannette Burgos, who added 12 digs and 24 assists.
The Lady Golden Rams will now face their rival, Fort Valley State, in the semifinals on Friday, November 22, at 7 p.m. Fans can expect an intense showdown as Albany State looks to continue their quest for the SIAC Championship on their home court.
