ALBANY, Ga. – The Albany State University (ASU) men's basketball team finished the 2021 season on Sunday afternoon with an 80-70 loss to Spring Hill College Badgers (SHC) in the Arena at West Campus.
Spring Hill held a 43-37 lead over the Golden Rams (3-8) at the halftime intermission and built as much as a 10-point advantage early in the 2
nd half, but the Golden Rams fought back to tie the game at 64-64 with 6:45 left on the clock.
A Spring Hill layup at 3:43 was followed up with a dunk at 3:15 as SHC clawed back out to a 74-65 cushion with two minutes remaining.
Malik Parker of ASU drained a 3-pointer at 1:35 to pull the Golden Rams within six points and keep the issue in doubt.
Jordan Simpson of Albany State then made it just a 74-70 SHC lead with a layup at 1:20, but SHC sank four consecutive free throws at 1:14 and at 31 seconds to keep the Badgers in the driver's seat and taking the victory.
Jordan Simpson led the Golden Rams with 20 points with 8 rebounds.
Malik Parker finished the contest with 16 points and five rebounds.
Jarmarcis Nunally added 11 points. Rounding out the double-digit scoring for the Golden Rams was
Joshua Jerome with 10 points. The Golden Rams shot 42.2% (27-64) overall, including 28.6% (6-21) from 3-point distance. Albany State was 66.7% (6-21) on G their free throw attempts and lost 17 turnovers to 11 steals by SHC.
SHC shot 47.5% (28-59) from the field and 26.7% (4-15) from 3-point range while knocking down 76.9% (20-26) of their free throws. The Badger earned a 39-35 edge in rebounding, but lost 15 turnovers to 10 steals by the Golden Rams.
The Golden finish the pandemic-shortened 2021 season with a 3-8 overall record.
