VALDOSTA, Ga.- The Albany State University women's basketball team fell to host the Valdosta State Lady Blazers on Saturday afternoon, 87-56.
Alexandria James led the way for the Golden Rams with a game-high 14 points and chipped in with six rebounds.
Kayla Frey led the way for the Lady Blazers with her first double-double of the season.
Both teams traded scores early in the first quarter, before a three-pointer from Bernard sparked a 11-2 run to end the first quarter. VSU took a 19-11 lead into the second quarter.
The Lady Blazers dominated the second quarter as VSU outscored Albany State 20-12. VSU took a 39-23 lead into the half, thanks to Bernard's 11 first-half points.
VSU extended its lead to 20 points courtesy of a layup. The defense played a huge role in the third quarter, as VSU held Albany State to just 20% from the field.
With the game well in hand, VSU did not back off. The Lady Blazers extended their lead to 30 points early in the fourth quarter.
Golden Rams finished shooting 26.7% from the field. ASU forced 17 turnovers, and converted those opportunities into points, with 15 points off turnovers.
