SPARTANBURG, S.C. (November 18, 2019) - The #1E Albany State University Golden Rams volleyball team opened the 2019 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Volleyball Championship Tournament with a victory to advance. The advancement came after the Golden Rams swept the Magicians of LeMoyne-Owen College in 3 sets (25-18, 25-20, 25-16).
The opening set had the crowd on edge as both teams battled for the lead. Kill after kill, the Golden Rams began to extend the scoring over the Magicians. With the score in favor of ASU at 21-18, the Golden Rams capitalized on the LOC flaws to take the 25-18 set 1 victory.
Tie the score four times in set 2, LeMoyne-Owen attempted to rally back. The energy of their fellow teammates, gave ASU the extra edge to take the 25-21 set 2 win. With 2 sets under their belt, The Golden Rams worked hard to secure the final set sweep. Despite the close score at the beginning of the set, the Golden Rams pulled away as the Magicians seemly handed ASU the 25-16 victory for the overall win.
Jannai Cheeks led the Golden Rams with 12 kills and 11 digs.
Kamryn Lane was not too far behind with eight kills. Along with .176 attached percentage from Cheeks,
Tomiah Jones stepped in with 22 assists.

Verniece Graham, the Golden Rams will look to stay focus as they prepare for the next round of play.
ASU will face Kentucky State University in the next round of the 2019 SIAC Volleyball Championship Tournament on November 19. The first serve is set for 10am at the Upward Star Center in Spartanburg, S.C.
