GOLDEN RAMS’ SEASON ENDS IN NCAA PLAYOFFS

Valdosta Pulls Away Late to Advance in Regional Play

WEST PALM BEACH, FL- Valdosta State University hit a three run homer in the bottom of the fourth and added four more runs in the sixth to capture a 7-0 shutout over Albany State University Friday at Simpson Field.

The Blazers now move forward in the loser's bracket in a win or go home matchup with the host Sailfish of Palm Beach Atlantic Friday evening. Alabama- Huntsville advanced to the regional final by way of a 5-3 win over Palm Beach Atlantic and will await the winner of tonight's contest for a 1pm matchup on Saturday.

Heather Robinson broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth inning with a three out home run down the left field line. With one out in VSU's half for the sixth, a fielder's choice and back to back loaded the bases for the Blazers and ASU sent Taylor Clemens to the circle in relief of Aryn McGowan. Lacey Crandall drew a bases loaded walk and the Blazers moved in front 4-0.

After the Rams got a force out at home, Danielle Patterson stepped in with a bases clearing triple to center field accounting for the game's final score.

The Golden Rams were held to four hits on the afternoon, one each from Jade Williams, Lavette Tucker, Clemens, and Demeshia Russell. ASU finishes the 2018 season with an overall record of 29-24.
