Golden Rams, Skyhawks Exchange Shutout Victories

ALBANY- Albany State University and Point University both earned shutout wins in a non-conference doubleheader on Friday afternoon at West Campus Field.

The Skyhawks rolled to an 11-0 triumph in the opener and the behind two home runs, the Golden Rams returned the favor in game two with a 3-0 victory.

Ryan Simpson allowed only three hits and fanned six batters in five innings for Point University and Aryn McGowan earned her second win of the year, going the distance in Friday's nightcap.

The Skyhawks scored in their first three trips to the plate and leveraged a five run second inning into an 11-0 shutout of the Golden Rams. Hannah Rogers connected on a one out, three run homer to put the Skyhawks up 4-1. ASU committed two errors in the inning, the second brought in Shea Pendley and Point led 6-0.
The Skyhawks put up three more runs in the top of the third and Lacy Striblin's 2RBI home run scored Pendly, accounting for game one's final score.

The Golden Rams used a superior defensive effort to regroup for a 3-0 win in game two. Fielding wise ASU finished with 21 putouts and 8 assists while McGowan yielded only 4 hits to the Skyhawks.

After Danielle Turner drew a two out walk in the bottom of the third, Brianna Murillo got her third home run of the season to put ASU on the board 2-0. Lavette Tucker then got in on the action in the bottom of the 6th with a solo shot to left field. Aryn McGowan and struck out four of 26 batters faced.

Both teams left five runners stranded in the game.

The Golden Rams will return to action in a road game at Georgia College on Wednesday, February 8th. The doubleheader is scheduled for 4pm from Milledgeville, Georgia.
