GOLDEN RAMS RUSH PAST MILES COLLEGE 34-9

Albany State Moves to 2-0 in the SIAC With Road Victory Over Golden Bears

September 30, 2017

FAIRFIELD, AL- McKinley Habersham had a season high 184 yards and three rushing touchdowns as the Albany State University Golden Rams cruised to a 34-9 win over Miles College Saturday evening at Sloan-Alumni Stadium.

Habersham posted a season high 7.7 yards on 24 carries, also a best for him in 2017. He put up two 1-yard rushing scores in the second quarter, the latter coming with just 22 seconds left in the first half to give ASU a comfortable 27-6 lead at halftime.

His last touchdown of the night came after a short punt gave the Golden Rams the ball on the Miles 40 yard line. Three plays later, Habersham broke for a 30 yard score to give ASU a 34-6 advantage with 7:47 left in the third quarter.

On the defensive side, the Golden Rams kept Miles out of the end zone, only allowing three Nick Christiansen field goals. He nailed a career long 52 yard field goal in the first quarter to give the Golden Bears their first points of the game and added ones from 32 and 40 yards out in second and third quarters, respectively.

ASU also pressured Miles QB Sidney Wilson into two interceptions, one from Jalen Bush, the other by Emmanuel Brown who returned the pick 19 yards to set up the score right before the close of the first half. Brown was also ASU's high man defensively with 8 tackles (7 solo).

The Golden Bears run defense had zero answers for Albany State, and the Golden Rams exploited that with 52 of their 59 offensive plays coming via the ground game. ASU finished with 353 rushing yards, more than Miles' total offensive output (269 of total offense.)

Chancellor Johnson kept the Miles defense off balance earning 50 yards on 8 carries. He called his own number for a 2 yard rushing score to cap ASU's first drive of the game (6 play, 95 yard drive) and connected with Ta'Keevian Harris on a 36 yard TD pass with 3:10 left in the second quarter.

The loss drops Miles College to 2-3 on the year and 1-1 on SIAC play.

The Golden Rams (3-2, SIAC 2-0) will return to ASU Coliseum for a two game home stand beginning with Lincoln University of Missouri on Saturday, October 7th. Kickoff is scheduled for 2pm.
