Lady Rams annihilate Paine to open series

AUGUSTA, Ga.- The Albany State women's softball team has recently been putting up high offensive number. ASU continued that trend on Friday afternoon, using 27 hits to record a 26-1 massacre over Paine College to open the three-game SIAC series.
 
The Lady Rams improve to 17-15 overall and 12-2 in the SIAC after the victory. PC falls to 2-12, 0-12.
 
Albany State took an early lead in the top of the first inning. Kayla Alexander hit a double to left field that scored Danielle Turner. Toni Coleman's double to center field later sent Alexander home for a 2-0 lead.
 
The second inning is where the Lady Rams seized control of the home team. Brianna Murillo's double ignited a 16-run inning, and ASU had a commanding 18-0 advantage.
 
In the third inning, Keyanna Dawson scored a run to give the visitors a 19-0. Paine scored its only run in the bottom of the stanza.
 
The Lady Rams added five more runs in the fourth inning, which included a two-run homer by Turner, to generate a 24-1 lead. Two more runs by ASU in the top of the fifth ended the scoring.
 
Turner finished the game 4-for-5 with four RBIs, and Jade Williams was 4-for-6 with five RBIs. Coleman went 3-for-4 with four RBIs, and Murillo was 3-for-3 with three RBIs.
 
Tiffany Massey (8-6) was the winning pitcher. She only gave up one hit and recorded five strikeouts and one walk.
 
The Lady Rams also had two errors and left eight runners on base.
 
The two teams will return to action on Saturday, April 1 to complete the series. The doubleheader is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
