Buzzer-beating three-pointer sinks Golden Rams against Miles

ALBANY, Ga.- The Albany State men's basketball team rallied late to seize victory from defeat, but Miles College took advantage of the game's last possession. The Golden Bears received a three-pointer at the buzzer from Sheldon Wright that sent ASU to defeat by the score of 64-61.
 
With the loss, the Golden Rams drop their second straight game and are now 10-14 overall and 5-9 in the SIAC. The team has lost six of its last seven games. Miles improves to 5-17, 5-6.
 
Albany State trailed for most of the contest. The home team was able to keep the game close in the first half. Miles claimed a 31-22 lead at the 6:17 mark, but ASU closed the gap to 35-29 by halftime.
 
In the second half, the Golden Bears used a layup by Keandre Swopes to build a 43-33 edge with 14:53 left in regulation. Trailing 51-41 at the 8:30 mark, Albany State began its comeback. Devontay Ward's basket with 5:24 left tied the score at 53.
 
ASU eventually surged ahead during the run. Khaliq Hughes and Jadon Davis nailed three-pointers to give the Golden Rams a 59-55 advantage with 3:03 left to play. Miles answered the home team's run, and Carl Garcia put the visitors back in front at 61-59 with 45 seconds left in the game.
 
On Albany State's next possession, Randy McClure rebounded a shot by Hughes and put it back for basket, drawing a foul on the make with 23 seconds on the clock. He missed the ensuing free throw, and Miles was able to benefit from Wright's final shot to end the contest.
 
McClure led Albany State with 15 points and five rebounds. Devontay Ward netted 12 points, and Michael Green added 13 points, nine rebounds and four assists.
 
The Golden Rams shot 25-of-63 (39.7%) from the field, 8-of-17 (47.1%) from three-point range and 3-of-5 (60%) from the free throw line.
 
Miles was led by Henrique Cistrunk's 13 points and nine rebounds. Shaquille Cook recorded 12 points and six rebounds, Joshua Johnson had 11 points and Carl Garcia tallied 10 points and seven rebounds.
 
The Golden Bears shot 30-of-73 (41.1%) from the field, 2-of-9 (22.2%) from three-point range and 2-of-6 (33.3%) from the free throw line.
 
ASU will be in action on Monday, Feb. 13 when it hosts Tuskegee University. The Golden Rams won the Jan. 30 meeting 57-56. The game is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m.
