ALBANY- After playing to a 27-27 tie at halftime, the Benedict College Tigers pulled away late to take a 65-57 win over Albany State University Saturday afternoon at West Campus Arena.

Jayson Snearl's jumper with 2:22 remaining pulled ASU within three, but it would prove to be the Rams' last basket of the game as Benedict closed the contest on 7-2 run to secure the victory.

The Tigers outrebounded ASU 51-33 and shot 13 of their 20 free throws in the second half. Jalani Watson-Gayle led all scorers with 20 points while Brandon Morris put up a double-double of 13 points and 13 boards.

The Golden Rams played from behind most of the first half but managed to fight back from an eight point deficit to tie the game at the intermission. Back to back baskets by Juwan High and Jayson Snearl pulled the Rams within four, 19-15 until a three-pointer by Mike Udume pushed the lead to seven.

Jonathan Henderson answered with a three-pointer for ASU which sparked a 7-0 run for the Rams to tie the game at 22 apiece. After two free throws moved the Tigers (9-2, SIAC 2-2) back in front a free throw and layup by Rahdin Hughes gave the Golden Rams their first lead of the contest 25-24 with 1:35 left in the first half. Then BC's Brandon Morris converted one of two from the line and the two teams traded baskets for a 27 all tie at the break.

ASU got the first basket of the second half from Antoine Gresham, a three-pointer, to give the Rams the final lead of the game 30-27 at the 19:07 mark.

Over a three minute span beginning at the 12:14 mark, the Tigers stretched their lead to nine points on four separate occasions. The Golden Rams faced their largest deficit of the afternoon after a three-point play by Morris with 6:29 remaining made the score 55-43.
