ALBANY- Claflin University held off a late run by Albany State University to capture a 60-54 win over the Lady Golden Rams Thursday evening at West Campus Arena.
 
Claflin raises its record to 3-4 overall and 2-1 in SIAC play while ASU slips to 4-4 overall and 1-2 in conference action.
 
The Panthers were led by Ashley Fields who fell two assists short of a triple double posting game highs of 16 points and 12 rebounds.
 
The Lady Golden Rams trailed 40-38 entering the final quarter of play until Tyra Thompson put ASU in front with a three-pointer at the 8:20 mark. With 7:20 remaining and the game knotted 44 all a 9-0 run by Clalflin would put the Panthers back in front.
 
Over the final 2:41, the Lady Golden Rams cut their deficit to a three-point spread on two occasions, the latter, a layup by Kayla Green, made the score 57-54 with 16 seconds to go. The Panthers answered with two free throws from Fields and one two from the line from Dominique Williams, who finished the game with a 14-point effort.
 
Kalya Green topped ASU in scoring with 13 points.
 
Claflin's bench outscored the Lady Golden Rams reserves with 30-18 and bested ASU in points in the paint 24-12
 
ASU will return to action on Saturday at home against Benedict College. Tip-off is scheduled for 1pm at West Campus
