Albany State Falls in 2017-2018 Home Debut

ALBANY, GA- The Albany State University Golden Rams dropped an 81-72 decision in their home opener to Georgia Southwestern Wednesday night at West Campus Arena.

The Hurricanes trailed 31-29 at the intermission but caught fire from beyond the three point arc exploding for 51 second half points on 58 % shooting from the field.

R.J. Sessions finished with a game high 30 points, 21 of which came in the second half. Sessions accounted for five of GSW's seven made threes in the second stanza while his teammate Andre Statam hit the other two and finished with 20 points on the evening.

GSW used a 14-2 run to take a 50-36 lead with 13:08 left in the game. JaDon Davis' three pointer with 4:05 remaining cut the lead to single digits before Statam hit two of two from the free throw line to push the Cane's lead back to ten 72-62 with 3:35 to go. ASU whittled the lead down to five with 49 ticks left after Tylen Walker hit two from the charity stripe.

Albany State forced the Canes into a turnover on their ensuing possession but came up empty on their next offensive set. Statam and Sessions went 4-4 from the line in the final 30 seconds to seal the win for Georgia Southwestern.

Jared Harrington scored a team best 18 points for ASU while Rahdin Hughes and Jonathan Henderson chipped in with 10 points apiece.

The Golden Rams will return to action at the Ram Rising Tournament November 17-18th  at West Campus Arena. The tournament will kick off on Friday with Montevallo and Columbus State squaring off at 5pm followed by Catawba and Albany State at 7pm.
