Second half dooms Lady Rams as they fall to CAU

ALBANY, Ga.- After winning a dramatic game against Clark Atlanta (70-69) on Jan. 9, the Albany State women's basketball team could not complete the season sweep of the Lady Panthers. ASU was unable to hold on to its halftime lead and lost to CAU by the score of 73-62.
 
After the loss, the Lady Rams own an overall record of 2-15 and an SIAC mark of 2-6. Clark Atlanta improves to 6-9, 2-4.
 
After trailing early in its last few games, Albany State began the contest with aggression. A jumper by Kayla Green gave the Lady Rams an 18-10 advantage with 57 seconds left in the first quarter, which ended with the visitors ahead 18-13.
 
In the second period, the ASU continued to hold its lead. Towards the end of the stanza, Green nailed a three-pointer, and Tyra Thompson scored off an offensive rebound to give Albany State a 35-27 edge at halftime.
 
The third quarter is where the Lady Rams would lose their advantage. After competition saw three ties and three lead changes, CAU's Sydni Davis made a jumper to give the home team a 46-45 lead heading into the final turn.
 
In the fourth quarter, the Lady Panthers began to pull away from Albany State. Maquaisha Rattray gave Clark Atlanta a 61-50 lead with 5:05 left in regulation. The Lady Rams could get no closer than nine points the rest of the way.
 
Green led Albany State with 14 points and four rebounds and Elesha Forster scored 13 points. Zuri Frost added 10 points, seven steals and six rebounds.
 
The Lady Rams shot 23-of-61 (37.7%) from the field, 1-of-6 (16.7%) from three-point range and 15-of-25 (60%) from the free throw line. The  team outrebounded CAU 47-41, but it also committed 20 turnovers.
 
Davis scored a game-high 20 points to lead Clark Atlanta, and Reyana Miller added another 19 points. Lauren Turner recorded 13 points and 13 rebounds.
 
The Lady Panthers shot 26-of-69 (37.7%) from the field, 4-of-17 (23.5%) from three-point range and 17-of-24 (70.8%) from the free throw line. The home team also registered 21 steals.
 
Albany State will return home on Saturday, Jan. 21 when it hosts Claflin University. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
