Lady Rams Volleyball slips past archrival FVSU

FORT VALLEY, Ga.- Keonna Hobbs recorded 10 kills and three solo blocks to lead the Albany State women's volleyball team to a 3-2 match win over archrival Fort Valley State. With the victory, ASU improves to 10-7 overall and 7-2 in the SIAC. FVSU falls to 5-6, 3-6.
 
Albany State fell behind early in the first game and eventually dropped the contest by a 25-20 score. The Lady Rams took control of the match in the next two tilts, winning 25-18 and 25-16.
 
In the fourth set, the Lady Wildcats tied the match with a pulsating 25-21 win. However, ASU showed its dominance in the fifth and final set, winning 15-8.
 
Brittianni Phillips and Justice Howard each had eight kills. Chelona Holmes added seven kills and five digs. Setter Jahkishma Soto recorded 43 assists, eight digs, three service aces and three block assists. Libero Kiara Thompson led the team defensively with 10 digs.
 
Albany State returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 3 when it travels to Orangeburg, S.C. to face Claflin University. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m.
