Lady Rams Volleyball defeats Paine in SIAC opener

AUGUSTA, Ga.- Justice Howard recorded 10 kills lead the Albany State Lady Rams to a 3-0 victory over Paine College. The match was the SIAC opener for both teams.
 
With the win, ASU improves to 2-4 overall, while Paine falls to 2-2.
 
After jumping out to a 25-21 win in the first game, Albany State was able to hold off late rallies by the home team in the next to sets. The Lady Lions made a comeback in the second game, but the Lady Rams negated it with a strong finish to win 25-22. ASU took the third contest 25-19.
 
Chelona Holmes, Keonna Hobbs and Maria Sanchez each had seven kills for the Lady Rams. Setters Jahkishma Soto and Ciara Chapman recorded 21 and 13 assists, respectively. Libero Kiara Thompson tallied 13 digs.
 
Kayla Lewis and Lydia Elmore led Paine with seven kills apiece. Totyanna Corbitt had 12 assists.
 
Albany State returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 20 when it travels to Columbus, Ga. to face Columbus State University. The match is set to begin at 6 p.m.
