Lady Rams fall SIAC tournament opener to Stillman

HAMPTON, Ga.- The Albany State women's softball team did not open the 2016 SIAC Women's Softball Championship Tournament with its anticipated success. ASU, the second seed from the East Division, lost its tournament opener to #3W Stillman College by a 6-2 score.  The game was played at the Lovejoy Softball Complex.

With the loss, the Lady Rams will enter the loser's bracket and fall to 20-34 overall. Stillman (19-23) advances in the winner's bracket where it will face Miles College.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the third inning. After Toni Coleman hit a double, Ambrionna Atkism belted a single to score her and give the team a 1-0 edge. Coleman hit a single in the bottom of the fifth inning to send Brishanti Weaver home for a 2-0 advantage.

However, Stillman took advantage of some timely hits in the sixth and seventh innings. The Lady Tigers scored four runs in the sixth and added two more in the top of the seventh to snatch the game from the Lady Rams.

Coleman led the team with three hits. ASU collected eight hits as a team and committed three errors. Tiffany Massey was the losing pitcher.

Albany State falls to the loser's bracket where they will meet the loser of the Tuskegee-Clark Atlanta contest. That game will be on Friday, April 28 at 10 a.m.
