Lady Rams rally for OT win over Valdosta State

VALDOSTA, Ga.- Zuri Frost had a game-high 22 points, five rebounds, five assists and two steals to lead the Albany State Lady Rams to a 62-57 overtime win over Valdosta State University. With the victory, ASU, which overcame a 21-point third quarter deficit, wins its fourth straight game and finishes the regular season with a 14-12 overall record.
 
Valdosta State falls to 11-16 overall.
 
Trailing 10-6 after the first quarter and 23-19 at halftime, Albany State fell behind by a large margin after the third stanza. Valdosta State opened the period on a 17-0 run to build a 40-19 lead at the 3:13 mark. The Lady Rams finished the quarter with a 9-0 run of its own to cut their deficit to 40-28 entering the final turn.
 
In the fourth quarter, ASU continued its comeback. A jumper by Sierra Foster with 1:45 left brought the score to 46-45 in favor of the home team. VSU's Lydia Harvey nailed a three-pointer to give the Lady Blazers a 49-45 edge with 1:28 left in regulation.
 
Artisha Holston's basket at the 1:10 mark brought the Lady Rams within two, 49-47. On Albany State's next possession, Kayla Green tied the score with 37 seconds left. After neither team could score in the final seconds, the game headed to overtime.
 
In the extra session, Kyasha Wilson, who had been held scoreless for the entire game, opened overtime with two three-pointers to give ASU a 55-49 lead with 2:51 left. VSU could not get closer than three points the rest of the way. Frost kept the Lady Blazers at bay with several made free throws down the stretch.
 
Holston recorded 11 points and eight rebounds for Albany State. The Lady Rams shot 23-of-58 (39.7%) from the field, 2-of-15 (13.3%) from three-point range and 14-of-18 (77.8%) from the free throw line.
 
Lydia Harvey led Valdosta State with 14 points, and Jo Bistrow added another 13.
 
Albany State will begin postseason action during the 2016 SIAC Women's Basketball Tournament, which will be held Feb. 29-Mar. 5. The tournament will be held at Bill Harris Arena in Fairfield, Ala. Seedings and pairings will be announced on Friday.
