Lady Rams drop pair to Valdosta State

ALBANY, Ga.- The Albany State Lady Rams could not find the win column against one of its in-state rivals. ASU lost a doubleheader to NCAA Division II perennial power Valdosta State University. With the losses, the Lady Rams are now 1-7 on the season. VSU improves to 9-3.

Albany State could not generate any hits at the plate to keep pace with VSU. The Lady Rams only trailed 2-0 heading into the top of the sixth inning. However, the Lady Blazers used that time to score four runs to secure their lead.
 
Danetra Jackson recorded the lone hit for Albany State. The Lady Rams committed two errors in the game. Ambrionna Atkism was the losing pitcher.

ASU started the second contest much better than the first. Malea Maye scored the Lady Rams' first run off a sacrifice from Toni Coleman. VSU took advantage of a three-run homerun by Kiley Rusen in the top of the third to take the lead.
 
Albany State cut into the deficit in the bottom of the fourth. Brishanti Weaver's single helped score Jackson, and ASU only trailed 3-2. Coleman was effective again in the bottom of the fifth inning. She belted a single to score Tiffany Massey, and the score was tied at three.
 
In the final two innings, Valdosta State was able to score three more runs to reclaim the lead at 6-3. The Lady Rams could not push any runs across in the final inning to tie or take the lead.
 
ASU collected five hits and committed two errors for the game. Massey took the mound loss.
 
Albany State returns to action on Tuesday, Feb. 23 when it travels to Georgia College for a doubleheader. Game times are set for 2 and 4 p.m. in Milledgeville, Ga.
