Lady Rams fall to Columbus State on the road

COLUMBUS, Ga.- Tyra Thompson came off the bench to record a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. However, the Albany State women's basketball team could not find victory on Tuesday night. In a rematch, ASU dropped a tough contest to Columbus State University by the score of 75-29.
 
With the loss, the Lady Rams fall to 1-7 overall. CSU, which won the Nov. 18 meeting 80-56, improves to 4-0.
 
Albany State could not generate an offense and had difficulty stopping the Lady Cougars. Columbus State jumped out to a 14-0 lead before ASU scored its first basket at the 1:52 mark of the first quarter. The Lady Rams fell behind further when they were outscored 22-10 in the second period to trail 36-14 at halftime.
 
In the third quarter, Albany State was outscored 19-9 and fell behind 56-23 at the end of the period. CSU also won the fourth quarter 19-9.
 
The Lady Rams shot 12-of-62 (19.4%) from the field, 0-of-15 (0%) from three-point range and 5-of-12 (41.7%) from the free throw line. The team also committed 28 turnovers.
 
Alexis Carter led Columbus State with 19 points and nine rebounds. Britteny Tatum netted 14 points, and Gabby Williams added 10. Ashley Asouzu tallied 11 points and nine rebounds.
 
The Lady Cougars shot 26-of-74 (35.1%) from the field, 9-of-34 (26.5%) from three-point range and 14-of-22 (63.6%) from the free throw line.
 
Albany State returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 10 it faces Georgia Southwestern State at ASU HPER Gymnasium. The Lady Hurricanes won the initial meeting 64-61 in overtime on Nov. 19. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
