27th Annual Fountain City Classic

The Albany State Golden Rams (5-3, 4-1) and the Fort Valley State Wildcats (3-6, 3-3) are set to meet in Columbus, Georgia for the 27th Annual Fountain City Classic. In this encounter, the two archrivals will play for the SIAC East Division championship for the fifth time in six years. The winner of the contest will meet Kentucky State University in the 2016 SIAC Championship game on Nov. 12.
    
The Golden Rams and the Wildcats will play in the 67th meeting between the two institutions. Albany State holds a 34-29-3 advantage in the series. ASU has won the last three games and 12 of the last 14 meetings. Albany State defeated FVSU 21-17 in the 2015 meeting. Fort Valley State's last win in the series was in 2012 when it defeated ASU 38-20.
    
In Week 9, Albany State defeated Benedict College 34-7 in the 2016 Augusta City Classic. Quarterback Caleb Edmonds was 21-for-29 with 194 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed 48 yards for two touchdowns. Wide receiver Michael Green recorded four receptions for 47 yards for the balanced "Gold Rush" Offense. Kicker Emilio Maldonado made 39– and 40-yard field goals and had six kickoffs for a total of 257 yards.
    
Defensively, linebacker Emmauel Brown led the dominating "Dirty Blue" Defense with six solo tackles and a sack. Nick Scott and Zavondric Shingleton added four solo tackles apiece.
     
Last week, Fort Valley State set up this week's SIAC East title game by defeating Morehouse College 24-16. Quarterback Otis Brown was 12-for-23 for 166 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed eight times for 58 yards. Jamari Clark added nine rushes for 53 yards, and wide receiver Orenzo Smith had three receptions for 50 yards.
    
The FVSU defense was led by James Kentron, who had eight tackles. Camron Young and Samuel Goode each added seven tackles.
