Lady Rams lose low-scoring duel to Georgia College

ALBANY, Ga.- The Albany State women's basketball team remained winless after its battle with Georgia College on Tuesday night. The Lady Rams were defeated 45-44 by the visiting team and now falls to 0-5 overall.
 
Georgia College improves to 3-0.
 
Albany State started the game with a defensive stand against the Lady Bobcats. Although they were cold from the field, the Lady Rams still managed to build an 11-8 lead after the first quarter. ASU extended its edge to 23-18 at halftime.
 
In the third period, GC outscored the home team 17-9 to take a 35-32 advantage into the final stanza. The closing seconds of the game provided the crowd with excitement.
 
Trailing 43-42 in the final seconds, Albany State went ahead when Raven Wynn connected on a jump shot to give her team a 44-43 lead. However, Georgia College answered with a basket by Ana Anderson and reclaimed the lead at 45-44.
 
ASU was able to get off a potential game-winning shot, but it was off the mark.
 
Kayla Green led Albany State with nine points and nine rebounds, and Ashley Johnson tallied another nine points. Uche Ibebunjo added eight points and eight rebounds. Zuri Frost had eight points and five rebounds.
 
The Lady Rams shot 10-of-50 (20%) from the field, 1-of-9 (11.1%) from three-point range and 25-of-40 (62.5%) from the free throw line.
 
Georgia College was led by Anderson's game-high 12 points and eight rebounds. Alyah McGriff recorded nine points and 12 rebounds.
 
The Lady Bobcats shot 19-of-56 (33.9%) from the field, 3-of-19 (15.8%) from three-point range and 4-of-11 from the free throw line.
 
Albany State is idle until Thursday, Dec. 1 when it hosts LeMoyne-Owen College at ASU HPER Gymnasium. Game time is slated for 5:30 p.m.
