Lady Rams Volleyball sweeps archrival Fort Valley State

ALBANY, Ga.- Keonna Hobbs and Maria Sanchez each recorded nine kills to lead the Albany State women's volleyball team to a 3-0 victory over archrival Fort Valley State. With the win, the Lady Rams earns their third straight victory and improves to 13-11 overall and 9-5 in the SIAC.
 
ASU is also currently in third place in the SIAC East Division behind Claflin University and Clark Atlanta University. FVSU, the division's fifth place team, falls to 6-11, 4-9.
 
Albany trailed early during the first two games of the match and used late rallies to emerge victorious. Those comebacks led to 25-18 and 25-20 wins in the first two contests. The Lady Rams didn't let the visitors into contention in the third game, winning 25-14.
 
Chelona Holmes added six kills for Albany State. Setters Jahkishma Soto and Ciara Chapman recorded 20 and 13 assists, respectively. Kiara Thompson led the team defensively with 10 digs.
 
The Lady Wildcats were led by Maya Stewart, who tallied a game-high 10 kills. Rita Davis added 10 assists.
 
Albany State will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 29 when it travels to Columbia, S.C. to face the Benedict College Lady Tigers. Benedict won the Oct. 7 meeting 3-0 in Albany. Match time is slated for 10 a.m.
