Game Day RAM-blings: Albany State Golden Rams vs. Clark Atlanta Panthers

ALBANY, Ga.- The Albany State Golden Rams (3-3, 2-1) and Clark Atlanta University Panthers (5-2, 3-2) are set to meet at the Albany State University Coliseum in Albany, Ga. The contest will match the top two teams in the SIAC East Division. This will be the 28th meeting between the two programs, with Albany State leading the overall series 25-2. The Panthers last victory over ASU can in 2001, a narrow 17-14 win.  Since that date, the Golden Rams have won the last 14 games. The last meeting between the schools occurred in 2015 when ASU defeated CAU 26-14 in Atlanta.
     
In Week 7, Albany State won its second straight game when it defeated Morehouse College 26-21 on the road. Quarterback Caleb Edmonds was 18-for-29 for 170 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed 10 times for 84 yards and a touchdown. Wide receiver Quadrey Simmons was the recipient of one of Edmonds' touchdown passes. He finished with three receptions for 55 yards. Place kicker Emilio Maldonado was 2-for-2 on PATs and connected a 37-yard field goal to go with his five kickoffs for a total of 304 yards.
     
On defense, linebacker Zavondric Shingleton led the team with 10 tackles (four solos), and safety Nick Scott added eight tackles (six solos). Defensive lineman Monte Taylor recorded eight tackles, a sack and a pass breakup.
     
Last week, Clark Atlanta defeated Benedict College during its annual homecoming game. Vanderbilt transfer quarterback Johnathon McCrary was 21-for-31 passing for 302 yards and two touchdowns, and he rushed 10 times for 42 yards. Wide receiver Trenton Earl had seven receptions for 156 yards and two touchdowns.
     
The Panther defense was led by Jacob Mitchell, who recorded eight tackles and a fumble recovery. Defensive back Jaquatin Victrum added seven tackles and an interception, and Mykel Lucear tallied six tackles. 
     
Clark Atlanta has won four straight contests since losing to Fort Valley State 37-31 in overtime on Sept. 17.
