Golden Rams blitzed by Kentucky State; lose 11th straight

ALBANY, Ga.- Sophomore center Devontay Ward scored 20 points and pulled down six rebounds, but the Albany State Golden Rams could not snap their long losing streak. ASU could not keep pace in the second half and lost to the Kentucky State Thorobreds 100-79. With the loss, Albany drops its 11th straight contest and falls to 1-10 overall and 0-4 in the SIAC.
 
KSU improves to 5-4, 4-1.
 
As the final score would indicate, the game recorded a fast pace throughout. The two teams went back and forth and exchanged the lead on several occasions. However, Albany State still trailed 43-37 at halftime.
 
In the early part of the second half, the Golden Rams were still in striking distance. ASU trailed only 51-44 before Kentucky State used a 12-0 run to build a 63-44 advantage at the 15:05 mark.
 
Seven minutes later, Albany State cut its deficit to nine, 73-64, after a dunk by Keldreion Miller. The Thorobreds answered with a 12-4 spurt to push its lead back to double figures and lead 85-68. ASU could not get back into contention after that.  
 
Jordan Floyd led Albany State in scoring with 21 points. Earl Farnum added 12 points and seven rebounds.
 
The Golden Rams shot 31-of-49 (44.9%) from the field, 3-of-18 (16.7%) from three-point range and 14-30 (46.7%) from the free throw line.
 
Malcolm Smith led a list of five double digit scorers for Kentucky State. He had 20 points.
 
Albany State returns to action on Thursday, Jan. 7 when it travels to Jackson, Tenn. to face the Lane College Dragons. Game time is set for 7:30 (central time).
