Lady Rams rout Paine in SIAC doubleheader

Albany, Georgia- The Albany State Lady Rams solidified their hold on first place in the SIAC East Division at the expense of Paine College. ASU dismantled the Lady Lions in a conference doubleheader by the scores of 16-1 and 13-3.
 
With the wins, the Lady Rams improve to 14-23 overall and 12-2 in the SIAC. Paine falls to 6-18, 0-14.
 
Game 1: Albany State 16, Paine 1
 
Albany State dominated Paine from the beginning. Toni Coleman started the massacre in the first inning with a single to score Malea Maye and Tiffany Massey for a 2-0 lead. Anria Peterson highlighted the stanza with a grand slam that propelled the Lady Rams to a 6-0 edge.
 
In the bottom of the second inning, ASU took advantage of some timely hits and Lady Lion errors to score eight more runs for a 14-0 lead. Two more runs in the third inning gave the Lady Rams a 16-0 advantage.
 
Paine scored its only run in the top of the fourth inning.
 
Hicks and Lopez each had two hits and two RBIs. Peterson led the team with five RBIs. Lopez was also the winning pitcher.
 
The Lady Rams recorded 11 hits and committed two errors for the game.
 
 
Game 2: Albany State 13, Paine 3
 
After Paine took 1-0 lead after the bottom of the first inning, Maye tied the game when Brishanti Weaver's single sent her home. The Lady Rams added five more runs in the second inning and two more in the third for 8-1 lead.
 
The Lady Lions made a small rally by scoring two runs in the top of the fifth inning. However, the Lady Rams finished off their foe by scoring five more runs between the fifth and sixth inning to end the game.
 
Maye led the Lady Rams with four hits. Massey, the winning pitcher, also had two hits, while Coleman recorded two hits and three RBIs.
 
ASU collected 14 hits and committed two errors.
 
Albany State returns to action on Saturday, April 11 when they host Paine in the third game of the weekend series. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
