Lady Rams sweep three-game series with Clark Atlanta

Albany, GA- The Albany State Lady Rams snapped a six-game losing streak at the expense of SIAC foe Clark Atlanta University. ASU swept the Lady Panthers in a three-game series on Saturday and Sunday. The Lady Rams won Saturday's doubleheader by the scores of 6-3 and 14-2. They followed those wins with a 5-0 victory on Sunday.
 
With the trio of triumphs, Albany State improves to 12-17 overall and 10-2 in the SIAC. CAU drops to 5-25, 2-10.
 
Game 1: Albany State 6, Clark Atlanta 3
 
Albany State took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Toni Coleman hit a double to score Tiffany Massey. There would be no runs scored over the next three innings by either team.
 
Clark Atlanta ended the scoring drought when it scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning. The Lady Rams answered in the bottom of the same inning with a barrage of runs. Malea Maye single sent Brishanti Weaver home for its first of five runs. Anria Peterson highlighted the inning when she hit her first grand slam of the season to add four more runs to the home team's point total. ASU led 6-2 after the inning.
 
The Lady Panthers attempted a rally in the top of the seventh inning, but the one run they scored was not enough to make a serious challenge to ASU.
 
Massey led the Lady Rams with two hits, while Peterson collected four RBIs. Alexa Lopez picked up the mound win.
 
Albany State recorded seven hits as a team and committed two errors.
 
Game 2: Albany State 14, Clark Atlanta 2
 
Tied with the Lady Panthers at one all after the bottom of the second, Albany State began to dominate its guest in the bottom of that stanza.
 
Kayla Alexander started the team's annihilation with a triple to start the inning. Lopez sent her home with a single, and then Sarah Arnold belted a two-run homer to give the Lady Rams a 4-1 lead. ASU added four more runs to take an 8-1 edge.
 
CAU scored a run to cut the lead to 8-2 in the top of the third inning, but Albany State added four more of its own to push its advantage to 12-2. The Lady Rams scored two more runs in the fourth inning to secure the win.
 
Arnold led Albany State offensively with three hits and four RBIs. Massey and Hicks each had three hits and three RBIs, and Lopez added three hits. Hicks also recorded the mound win.
 
ASU had 19 hits and one error as a team.
 
Game 3: Albany State 5, Clark Atlanta 0
 
In holding Clark Atlanta scoreless for the first time in the series, the Lady Rams slowly put CAU away to complete a series sweep.
 
Coleman had three hits and two RBIs, and Maye added two hits and two RBIs. Massey was the winning pitcher.
 
The Lady Rams recorded seven hits and committed only one error for the game. They also held the Lady Panthers to only two hits.
 
Albany State returns to action on Wednesday, April 8 when it travels to Pensacola, Florida to face the University of West Florida in a doubleheader. Game times are set for 4 and 6 p.m.
