Lady Rams Softball sweeps series from Benedict

Albany, GA- The Albany State Lady Rams completed a series sweep of SIAC foe Benedict. After defeating the Lady Tigers on Saturday 13-5, the Lady Rams annihilated Benedict in a Sunday doubleheader by the scores of 10-0 (Game 1) and 11-1.
 
With the wins, Albany State improves to 3-6 overall and 3-0 in the SIAC. Benedict falls to 3-11, 0-3.
 
Game 1: Albany State 10, Benedict 0
 
To begin what would eventually be a shutout for the home team, Albany State scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning. Toni Coleman hit a single to score Tiffany Massey, and Malea Maye added another run when she scored off a Lady Tiger error. Ambrionna Atkism's three-run homer increased the Lady Rams' lead.
 
In the second inning, Chelsea Hicks got into the act when her single brought Massey home again. Atkism's single scored Hicks, and Anria Peterson doubled to score two more runs and give ASU a 9-0 advantage.
 
Peterson was clutch again in the fourth inning. After Atkism got on base with a triple of her own, Peterson brought her in with a single to account for the final point.  The game was called after the top of the fifth inning.
 
Atkism finished the game with three hits and four RBIs. Peterson added three hits and three RBIs. Hicks was the winning pitcher for Albany State.
 
The Lady Rams collected 11 hits and committed only one error for the game.
 
 
Game 2: Albany State 11, Benedict 1
 
Benedict opened the scoring with a single run in the top of the first inning. The Lady Rams seized control of the game in the bottom of the second inning when Atkism scored off a passed ball, and Brishanti Weaver advanced home courtesy of a sacrifice hit.
 
In the third inning, Albany State added five more runs. After Weaver hit a single to send Demeshia Russell home, and Jahnisha White scored off a walk, Keyanna Dawson belted a three-run double to help ASU increase its advantage to 7-1.
 
The Lady Rams added four more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, and the game was called after the top of the fifth.
 
Maye, Atkism, and Dawson each recorded two hits for the contest. Dawson also had four RBIs, and White added three more. Tiffany Massey was credited with the mound win.
 
ASU collected 10 hits for the game.
 
Albany State returns to action on Tuesday, March 3 when they host Georgia Southwestern University for a doubleheader. Games times are scheduled for 2 and 4 p.m.
