Lady Rams hold off Stillman for win

Box Score Sophomore guard Keidra Green had a game-high 19 points and recorded seven rebounds to lead the Albany State Lady Rams to a 69-64 victory over the Stillman College Lady Tigers. With the win, ASU improves to 7-3, 2-1 in the SIAC. The Lady Tigers fall to 4-9, 1-2.

Led by torrid shooting from both Green and senior Kourtney Alexander, Albany State was able to build an early advantage. Despite a rash of turnovers, the Lady Rams held their first double digit lead, 18-8, with 12:35 left in the half. Green's two free throws with 15 seconds remaining provided ASU with a 41-26 lead to take into intermission.

In the second half, the Lady Rams continued to hold a double figure lead until the 13:52 mark when Stillman cut the lead to nine, 39-48. Albany State pushed its lead back to 10, 60-50, with 7:06 remaining in regulation.

However, the Lady Tigers were able to capitalize on ASU turnovers to make another run. Stillman scored to make the score 67-64 with 26 seconds left, but the Lady Rams were able to close the game out with two free throws by Alexander.

Alexander netted 17 points and pulled down a team-high eight rebounds. Artisha Holston added 13 points and six rebounds, despite battling foul trouble the entire game.

The Lady Rams shot 19-45 (42.2%) from the field, 6-15 from three-point range (40.0%) and 25-39 (64.1%) from the free throw line. They also outrebounded Stillman 49-43.

Albany State will return to action on Saturday, January 11th when they host Miles College at the ASU HPER Gymnasium. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m.
