The match was held in observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Coach Robert Skinner said his teams help spread the word about breast cancer to fans.

"October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and we try to do our part in increasing awareness of this disease," said Robert Skinner, ASU volleyball coach. "Most people are aware of breast cancer, but they don't take steps to detect the disease in early stages and enourage others to do the same. Much progress has been made, but there is still much work to be done in the area of awareness.

The Lady Rams will hit the road for three matches against the Miles College Lady Bears on Oct.11, the Tuskegee University Lady Tigers on Oct. 15 and the Lady Panthers on Oct. 17, before returning to HPER Gymnasium for their final home match against the Claflin University Pantherettes on Oct. 21.

Members of both teams enjoyed cake, pizza and other refreshments, and received pink bags filled with toiletries and other feminine products. Albany businesses and individuals, including Coach Jesse Massey, The Cakery, Harvey's Supermarkets, Papa John's Pizza, Publix Supermarkets, Expressations Custom Embriodery and Paraprenalia, Winn Dixie Stores and Doyal's Wholesale Company, sponsored the event.
