Jones Brothers HPER Complex

HPER Complex (Built 1997-Capacity 5,000)

The current home court for the Albany State University volleyball team, the Jones Brothers HPER (Health, Physical Education, and Recreation) Complex, stands as a dynamic centerpiece for Golden Ram athletics and community engagement. HPER also serves as the home of ASU’s men’s and women’s basketball teams. HPER continues to be a central location for competitive play and large-scale events.

Recently upgraded to enhance the student-athlete and fan experience, the facility now features high-efficiency LED lighting throughout, dramatically improving visibility and energy performance. The training room has also undergone significant renovations, now outfitted with brand-new flooring and custom-branded athletic training tables that proudly display ASU’s athletic identity. These improvements reflect Albany State's ongoing investment in athletic excellence and wellness.

In addition to hosting ASU volleyball home matches, the Jones Brothers HPER Complex has been the proud site of multiple SIAC events, including the SIAC Volleyball Crossover Tournament and SIAC Volleyball Championships. The venue also supports a wide range of university and community programs, reinforcing its role as a versatile and accessible space for both recreation and celebration.

Within the facility, you'll also find a full indoor swimming pool, a modern fitness center equipped for comprehensive training, and an upgraded athletic training room, making the HPER a cornerstone of both athletic performance and holistic wellness for Albany State University.

Fun Fact:
HPER Complex was officially renamed on  Jan.25, 2020, and dedicated to the Jones Brothers. The Jones Brothers (Oliver, Melvin, Wilbert, Caldwell, Major, and Charles) are widely recognized as the only family to produce six brothers who played professional basketball, including four who played in the NBA. All six brothers attended Albany State College and collectively played as centers for the ASU men’s basketball team for 18 consecutive years. One of the brothers, the late Oliver Jones, served as head basketball coach for 28 seasons, beginning in 1972. Jones took the Albany State Golden Rams to six NCAA post-season tournaments and was named Coach of the Year seven times while at ASU. The basketball court will be named in his honor to further recognize his contributions to the institution.
