Fairfax, Va.- Diverse: Issues in Higher Education has released its 2016 Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sports Scholars list. Albany State women’s basketball student-athlete Artisha Holston haa earned a spot on the listing.
 
Diverse: Issues in Higher Education sponsors the Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sports Scholar Awards to honor undergraduate students who have excelled in the classroom as well as on the athletic field. Inspired by tennis legend Arthur Ashe, Jr.'s commitment to education as well as his love for the game of tennis, U.S. colleges and universities are invited to participate in this annual awards program by nominating their outstanding sports scholars.
 
In addition to their athletic ability and academic performance, Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars demonstrate a commitment to community service and community activism.
  
Holston, a Butler, Ga. native, is on the women’s basketball third team. She led the Lady Rams’ basketball program to the 2015 SIAC tournament title and the 2014 SIAC tournament championship game. In her three years, she was named to the SIAC All-Conference team from 2014-2016 and was voted the 2016 SIAC Player of the Year. Holston also led the program to NCAA tournament appearances in 2014 and 2015 and was a member of the NCAA All-South Region teams during those two years.
 
Holston, who graduated in the spring with a degree in Health and Human Performance, has a 3.46 GPA in the classroom. She served as the Female Representative of the ASU SAAC and is a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society. Holston is also a charter member of the Phi Epsilon Kappa Fraternity (Theta Eta Chapter) at Albany State.
