Atlanta, Ga. – The Albany State University women's cross country team continued to impress this season with a strong performance at the Georgia Tech Cross Country Invitational, finishing 9th overall out of 14 teams in a competitive field that featured a mix of NCAA Division I and Division II programs. The Lady Golden Rams held their own among 137 runners, demonstrating consistency, endurance, and continued growth as the season progressed.
Freshman standout
Brea Vann once again led the charge for Albany State, finishing 55th overall with a time of 23:52.0, averaging a 6:24.1 mile pace. Close behind was fellow freshman
Faith Thompson, who placed 68th with a time of 24:18.7 and a 6:31.2 mile pace, maintaining her position as one of the top emerging runners in the SIAC.
Sydney Haywood rounded out the top three for ASU, clocking 24:57.0, followed by veteran runners
Dasia Gilyard (25:40.6),
Kaila Wimes (26:17.2), and
Azzaria Brown (26:46.5).
Competing against elite regional programs, the Lady Golden Rams showed poise and determination on a challenging course, continuing to build momentum ahead of the postseason stretch. The team's ninth-place finish highlights the program's growing depth and the balance of experienced leadership and youthful energy that has defined their 2025 campaign.
Up next, Albany State will return to action as they continue preparation next week at the Warhawk Invite hosted by Calhoun Community College on Oct 9 in Decatur, Ala. 4:30 PM.
