Golden Rams ousted from SIAC tournament by Miles

BIRMINGHAM, Ga.- Freshman Jadon Davis tallied 15 points and six rebounds, but Albany State could not extend its season for another game. SIAC East's sixth seed ASU was defeated by #3W Miles 73-65 and eliminated from the 2017 SIAC Men's Basketball Tournament.
 
The Golden Rams' season ends with an overall record of 10-19. Miles improves to 8-20 and advances to face #2E Clark Atlanta in the quarterfinal round.
 
Albany State and Miles battled in a close contest during the first half. The score was tied and the two teams exchanged the lead on several occasions. When halftime arrived, the Golden Bears owned a 34-30 lead.
 
In the opening minutes of the second half, MC pushed its lead to 44-34 at the 17:13 mark. The Golden Rams would make a run over the course of the stanza. Michael Green hit a jumper with 9:16 left to give ASU a 53-52 edge. Miles regained a 54-53 lead with a layup by Joshua Johnson.
 
Trailing 56-53, Virgil Fields brought Albany State within one, 56-55, with 6:43 remaining. ASU couldn't get any closer. The Golden Bears made enough free throws down the stretch to hold off the Golden Rams.
 
Juwan High scored 13 points and Field and Devontay Ward finished with 10 points apiece. Ward also had five rebounds.
 
The Golden Rams shot 23-of-55 (41.8%) from the field, 4-of-14 (28.6%) from three-point range and 15-of-18 (83.3%) from the free throw line.
 
Shaquille Cook led Miles with a game-high 23 points and eight rebounds. E. Reginald Smalls added 17 points and six rebounds.
 
The Golden Bears shot 27-of-67 (40.3%) from the field, 3-of-11 (27.3%) from three-point range and 16-of-25 (64%) from the free throw line.
